Daily Fantasy Rundown: January 1st, 2015

We have a new feature on the blog where we look at the past day in fantasy sports.

DAILY FANTASY RUNDOWN for the games of January 1

There were only 2 NHL contests on New Year's Day, including the 2015 Winter Classic.  Only 10 goals were scored and we saw 30+-save performances from Ryan Miller VAN (37), Braden Holtby WSH (33), and Corey Crawford CHI (32).

2015 Winter Classic: WASHINGTON 3, Chicago 2

  • RW Troy Brouwer WSH broke a 2-2 deadlock with 13 seconds left on the power play (6 pts: 1-0--1, 2 PIM, GWG, PPG)
  • LW Alex Ovechkin WSH had the primary assist on that goal and scored one of his own to come up with his second straight 1+1 game (7.5 pts: 1-1--2, +1, PPA)
  • D Mike Green WSH picked up 2 assists (10.5 pts: 0-2--2, +1, PPA), continuing his best fantasy season since 2009 when he scored 19 goals and had 76 points in 75 games.
  • Each goalie faced 35 shots, but Braden Holtby WSH (7.6 pts: 33 SV, 2 GA, W) grabbed the headlines over Corey Crawford CHI (1.4 pts: 32 SV, 3 GA, L)

Los Angeles 3, VANCOUVER 2

  • RW Justin Williams LAK (5 pts: 1-0--1, PPG) and C Jarret Stoll LAK (7 pts: 1-0--1, +1, GWG) helped reverse a 2-1 deficit and pull out a 3-2 win thanks to their goals 53 seconds apart in the final three miutes of the game
  • RW Radim Vrbata VAN had the only multi-point performance in the game, chipping in on the Canucks first goal and scoring his 15th goal to stake Vancouver to that 2-0 lead (6.5 pts: 1-1--2, PPA)
  • The Kings outshot the Canucks, 40-16, and G Ryan Miller VAN held the Kings at bay until those final three minutes (2.4 pts: 37 SV, 3 GA, L)
